Our Solar System

Prehistoric people were already interested in the wonders of the sky, with astronomy being limited, at first, to observing visible celestial bodies and predicting their movement. People that lived thousands of years ago knew a great deal about the motion of the Sun and the Moon, as well as about the planets and the stars. In ancient times, they were able to determine the length of the seasons, and recognised the cyclicality of the lunar and solar eclipses. They were therefore able to predict the celestial movements
of the Sun, the Moon, and the five known planets of the time: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. With the development of science, the appearance of telescopes, and then of computers as well, the field of astronomy has also boomed. In the 21st century we can get to know more and more of the secrets
of the Solar System, and almost ‘feel at home’ in it.
